Hi I wanted to comment today on Fats, cholesterol and what not I am not an expert by definition, but I am someone who reads a lot about this stuff. We are told this day in age that saturated fat is BAD for us I beg to differ greatly on this point. I truly believe UN-saturated fats are the bady they are the ones that create high cholesterol levels. Cholesterol is not bad in its self it is your bodies mechanism to try and right something that is going on your body. Like when you are sick your body creates a fever to dry the sickness out of you. But we in this day and age take painkillers to reduce it when it is your bodies natural instinct to right itself. The same with cholesterol your body is trying to heal itself. I once read that blaming cholesterol for all the problems is like blaming the police department of you town on all the crime. They are there to help the same with cholesterol. IT IS YOUR BODIES NATURAL DEFENCE TO RIGHT ITSELF! People who have levels of cholesterol are not people who ingest saturated fats they are people who ingest UN-saturated fats. I have read when test have been done, trying to show saturated fats to be the bady UN-saturated fats were being taken as well so how could a person have a correct reading. Instead they conclude that it is saturated fats.

May I add at this point I eat saturated fats I avoid unsaturated at all cost as they are free radicals and cause great damage to the body. My cholesterol levels are fantastic every thing is fantastic the doctors has told whatever I am doing keep doing it. I have a Friend that wont eat saturated fats she has amazingly high levels of cholesterol dangerous levels. GO figure huh.

I very much recommend a book called 'Nourishing Traditions' by Sally Fallon. In this she explains things great author is Ron Schmid, ND. Both of these people will open your mind to a world of thinking that you have been made to avoid by the powers to be.

'The relative good health of the Japanese, who have the longest life span of any nation in the world, is generally attributed to a low fat diet. Although the Japanese eat few dairy fats,the notion that their diet is low in fat is a myth; rather, it contains moderate amounts of animal fats from eggs, pork, chicken, beef, seafood and organ meats. With their Fondness for shellfish and fish broth, eaten on a daily basis, the Japanese probably consume more cholesterol than most Americans. What they do not consume is a lot of VEGETABLE OIL, white flour or processed food(although they do eat white rice). The life span of the Japanese has increased since World War 11 along with an increase in animal fat and protein in the diet. Those who point to Japanese statistics to promote the low fat diet fail to mention that the Swiss live almost as long on one of the fattiest diets in the world. Tied for third in the longevity stakes are Austria and Greece- both with high- fat diets.

As a final example, let us consider the French. Anyone who has eaten his way across France has observed that the French diet is loaded with saturated fat in the form of butter, eggs, cheese, cream, liver, meats and rich pates. Yet the French have a lower rate of coronary heart disease than many other western countries. In the united states, 315 of every 100,000 middle aged men die of heart attacks each year; in France the rate is 145 per 100,000. In the Gascony region, where goose and duck liver form a staple diet, this rate is a remarkably low 80 per 100,000. This phenomenon has recently gained international attention and was dubbed the French paradox. (the French do suffer from many degenerative diseases, however. They eat large amounts of sugar and white flour and in recent years have succumbed to the time saving temptations of processed foods.)

A chorus of establishment voices, including the American Cancer Society, the National Cancer institute and Senate committee on Nutritional and Human needs, claims that animal fat is linked not only with heart disease but also with cancers of various types. Yet when researchers from the university of Maryland analyzed the data they used to make such claims, they found that vegetable fat consumption was correlated with high rates of cancer and animal fats was NOT.

Clearly something is wrong with the theories we read in the popular press- and used to bolster sales of low fat concoctions and cholesterol - free foods. The notion that saturated fats perse cause heart disease as well as cancer is not only falsie, it is just plain wrong. But it is true that some fats are bad for us. In order to understand which ones, we must know something about the chemistry of fats.'


This is very interesting reading and there is so much more we need to open our minds to the possibility that there could be another truth despite what the majority believe. I believe because they have brain washed into believing these things.

    Certainly something to think about. I used to worry about sat. fat but I'm now more inclined to think our health problems are related to processed food and all the chemicals added to our diets. Thanks for the great post.

  2. Thanks for your post, Peta. Very interesting. There is so much misinformation out there! On carbohydrates as well. The info is bewildering and conflictive - as in some say they are good, some say they are bad. What do you say?
